Pilot Project
It all begins in East York, Toronto. Our pilot site is the future of food in cities - a building with ground floor retail, top floor affordable housing and a greenhouse on the rooftop. This site will run for 12 months at 2000 sqf with an estimated 6000 heads of lettuce produced each month. We are currently working with the City of Toronto on permitting for this pilot site. Once we get permitting approval you can find us at 2775/2777 St Clair E, Toronto!
How It Works
Growing the greenest greens on rooftops by capturing stormwater, feeding that into a hydroponic nutrition based growing system that is fully run on AI technology and powered entirely by solar power and solar storage. A first of its kind in the world.
-
Because our growing method is hydroponics (using a water nutrient source instead of soil) we are much lighter than you would think!
-
Not just yet! We are still working with the City of Toronto to allow permitting for our pilot site. Because no one has ever done this in Ontario, let alone Toronto, there are some speed bumps along the way!
-
Two reasons! One - Canadian's eat a ton of lettuce, we import 165,000 metric tons JUST from California each year. Two - lettuce grows really quickly, from seedling to harvest in a month, so we are able to gather a lot of data over our one year pilot with this crop.
